One of the main themes of the book is “Level 5 leadership:” personal humility & professional will. The basis of the entire book: Can a good company become a great company and if so how ? Some of them are: “Clock Building, Not Time Telling”, “More than Profits”, “No “Tyranny of the Or” (Embrace the “Genius of the And”)”, “Preserve the Core/Stimulate Progress”, “Big Hairy Audacious Goals”, “Try a Lot of Stuff and Keep What Works”, “Home Grown Management” This is the first book of Collins and it is one of the most influential business books of our era even after almost 20 years since it is first published.įor this book, I think chapter headings provide insights about the main ideas. I would suggest everyone that is interested in business books all these three books of Jim Collins. Last one “Great by Choice” is about how to stay great in uncertain, turbulent environments. “Good to Great” is about how to become a great company and could have been written before “Built to Last” (first be great to stay great :). The first book of Jim Collins is “Built to Last” and it is about how to stay as a great company. If you hear even more in different places by different people that means it is important and you must read or understand that. Second time noticing the same thing in a different environment you would be more interested. When you hear a name, a concept first time, you may notice but not take any action.

Then my current employer, Goodyear, advised Great by Choice (the last book of J.Collins) to all its employees and provided free copy to some. They were simply, easy to digest and it felt like reading a novel rather than a business book. He had copies of “Built to Last” and “Good to Great” and I enjoyed reading both. I was first introduced to the fan club of Jim Collins by my brother. If you are interested in business books, the chances that you know Jim Collins are high.
